Colonoscopy

This procedure is for both men and women. It is a method for screening and preventing cancer in the colon and rectum. It looks for polyps that can be precancerous and detects cancer before it starts or in minimal stage. The doctors can remove these polyps during the procedure if necessary. Before the procedure they have a liquid or some other sort of prep that cleans out your colon. This means getting rid of as much feces as possible. This procedure is performed with a small camera on a tube that is flexible, while the individual is asleep.

You should begin asking about a colonoscopy around the age of 45 and repeat the test every 10 or so years.
