What Names Should You Know?

When it comes to male anatomy there are important parts when it comes to the reproductive system. There are many more parts internally than I will go over here but I want to go over the names of some areas on or around your penis.

The Shaft- this is the main structure of the penis. Inside the shaft there are three sections of spongy erectile tissue. In the middle is your urethra.
Glans/ Head- This is the tip of your penis. Some people have foreskin; this is an extra layer of skin around the head that is loose. Others are circumcised; this means they do not have that loose skin.
Urethra- your urethra is where the urine and sperm come out of. This is the hole at the tip of the penis. It is connected to a tube that goes to the bladder. When sperm comes out of the urethra, the spongy erectile tissue presses against the section of the tube that stems from the bladder. This causes urine to not come out in the ejaculation.
Scrotum- this is the loose hanging skin that holds the testicles, like a pouch. The reason that the testicles must be an external structure in men is because the sperm in the testicles must stay at a temperature of 97-99 degrees F. This is why when it is cold your testicles get closer to your body; they are trying to keep their warmth. When it is hot they move further from the body trying to cool themselves off.
Testicles- These are the two egg shapes organs inside of the scrotum, one on the left and one on the right. Your testicles are connected to the spermatic cord. This cord is connected to the urethra tube slightly away from the bladder. The testicles are also what provides the body testosterone (this is what causes body hair, make puberty, etc.).
Prostate Glands- this is a gland that is slightly below the bladder and beside the urethra internally. This gland has fluid that is added to the sperm to keep it healthy during ejaculation.
Protective Wear
Because these reproductive organs are external there are ways to protect them from injury. Protective cups are made to wear under outer garments and protect the genitals from severe injury. The injury most likely is blunt trauma during sports where the genitals are at risk from being hit accidentally. If this protective equipment is not worn, it can develop long term issues.
