How to Perform the Exam
Your scrotum should be relaxed and warm. This is best performed in the shower or directly after. If after a shower, look at yourself in the mirror and look for any skin color or texture changes, or swelling, on or near the scrotum.

Next take both of your hands and examine each testicle individually. To do this place the middle and index fingers on the top while your thumb is on the bottom. Take the testicle and roll it gently between your fingers. During this, you are feeling for any bumps or lumps. You are also looking for any size or texture changes.
Some things are normal, for example testicles often have one that is a slight amount larger than the other. You can also feel the epididymis, which feels like a string or rope, behind the testicle that many people think is an abnormal lump.

When determining if you should contact a doctor, here are some factors to consider…
- If there is a hard spot or a new lump
- Your testicles and lower abdomen feeling heavy or Achey
- A significant change in shape, texture or size
- Testicles having pain or discomfort
- If you have any questions about your health and normal
